What does our election boycott do? It removes from the government and state any hint of legitimacy, establishing the truth that the possession of political power is important. Failing to obtain political support from Black people, the government and state would be unable to predict the Black vote and would be forced to develop other strategies.
At the same time, our election boycott promotes that regardless of the degree of Black politial involvement, Black conditions remain unchanged. Therefore, Blacks must consider starting our own party and run our own candidates for public office. If nothing else, an independent political party would get us public forums, financial support, candidates to be committed to the Black community and be given respect from the other race groups for finally having some backbone as a people. Without wealth-power, Blacks must unify and form a critical mass that politicians cannot dismiss but must acknowledge and reward.
